Dr. Shyam K. Bhat has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of medicine and psychiatry.

Bhat completed a five-year combined internal medicine and psychiatry residency at SIU (2004). He previously was a senior house officer at All Saints Hospital in Birmingham, England (1999) and had several clinical experiences at Manipal Hospital in Bangalore, India (1998) and Prince Charles Hospital in Wales, United Kingdom (1997). He earned his medical degree at Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India (1996).

Bhat received the Norris L. Brookens Award given by the American College of Physicians (2003).

His family resides in Bangalore, India – parents, Dr. K.S.S. and Dr. Asha Bhat, and sister, Deepa Bhat.
