Dr. Andre Bieniarz Dr. Andre Bieniarz portrait has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as professor of obstetrics and gynecology and chief of the division of maternal-fetal medicine.

Previously, he was chair of obstetrics, co-director of maternal-fetal medicine and director of obstetrics and gynecology residency program at J.H. Stroger Cook County Hospital in Chicago (2004-06).  He was director of the obstetrics and gynecology residency program and obstetrics and gynecology division chief at Harbor-University of California Los Angeles in Torrance, Calif., (2001-04) and at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago (1998-2001).  He was on faculty at the University of Illinois School of Medicine, including serving as director of maternal-fetal medicine (1989-98).

Bieniarz completed a two-year fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Women’s Hospital at University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1982) and his obstetrics and gynecology residency at the Harbor-UCLA (1980).   He earned his medical and bachelor's degrees at the University of Illinois in Chicago (1976, 1972).

Bieniarz is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in the subspecialty of maternal-fetal medicine.  He received the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching from the University of Illinois (1998, 2000) and a national faculty award for excellence in resident education from Harbor-UCLA (2003).

He has had more than two dozen articles published in scientific publications on his research interest of prematurity, prenatal care, antepartum fetal assessment and ultrasound.
