Dr. Laurent Brard, Ph.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and a member of the Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU.
He previously was on staff at Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island in Providence (2005-10) and on the faculty of Alpert Medical School of Brown University (2005-10). He completed a three-year fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Women & Infants Hospital, where he also completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology (2005, 2002). He earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburg (1998).
He was a postdoctoral fellow in chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania (1994). He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in chemistry as well as his doctorate in chemistry from Northwestern University in Evanston (1992, 1991). He earned his master’s in organic chemistry at Unversité Claude Bernard (1987) and his bachelor’s in chemical engineering at the Ecole Superieure de Chimie Industrielle de Lyon (1987), both in France.
Brard is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and certification in gynecologic oncology is pending. He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of American Chemical Society, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American Society of Clinical Oncologists and American Association for Cancer Research. Brard serves as a journal reviewer for numerous professional journals and has had more than 60 articles published in professional journals. His research awards for ovarian cancer have included more than $2 million in grants fromthe National Institutes of Health.
