Gregory Brewer, Ph.D., Gregory Brewer, Ph.D., portrait joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1980.  He is a professor of medical microbiology, immunology and cell biology and neurology.  Previously he was on the microbiology faculty of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1974-80).

Brewer completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (1974).  He earned his doctorate in biology from the University of California San Diego in La Jolla (1972) and his bachelor’s at California Institute of Technology in Pasadena (1968).

His memberships include the Society for Neuroscience, the American Aging Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  His research interests include cell biology of Alzheimer’s disease, neural networks and growing neurons.  His research has been funded by many national organizations, including the National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
