Daniel Butnariu, M.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine. He will provide health care in the division of pulmonary medicine. He also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.
For the past year Butnariu has been the pulmonary critical care physician at Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Medical Center in New York. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary critical care at the NSLIJHS/Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine in 2011. He was a hospitalist at Huntington Hospital in Huntington, New York (2007-08). He completed residencies in internal medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn (2007) and thoracic surgery at Central Military Hospital in Bucharest, Romania (2001). He was the attending thoracic surgeon at the Hospital of Pneumology in Bucharest, Romania (2001-03). He received his medical degree from the Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasa, Romania (1995).
Butnariu is board certified in pulmonary medicine, critical care medicine and internal medicine. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society (ATS). He is married to Dr. Madalina Butnariu, who is also an SIU physician.
