Dr. Madalina Butnariu

Dr. Madalina Butnariu has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, specializing in Gastroenterology. She also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.

Butnariu completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center (SUNY DMC) in Brooklyn (2012), and was a clinical assistant professor there from 2005-09. She completed two residencies in internal medicine: at SUNY DMC (2004) and at the University Hospital Program in Bucharest, Romania (2001). She received her medical degree from the Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Iasi, Romania (1995).

Butnariu is board certified in Internal Medicine. Her research interests include gastrointestinal health and studies of treatment efficacy within inner city populations. She is married to Dr. Daniel Butnariu, who is also an SIU physician.
