Xiang Cai, Ph.D.,
has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale as an assistant professor of physiology. Previously, he held positions at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) in Baltimore, serving on the physiology faculty as assistant professor (2009-11) and as a research associate (2007-09).
Cai completed a four-year postdoctoral fellowship at UMSOM in 2006. He was a research scholar at the State University of New York at Buffalo (2000-02). Cai earned his doctoral degree in neuroscience at Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Science in Guangzhou, China, in 2000. He earned his bachelor’s in biology at Shaanxi Normal University in X’ian, China (1994).
Cai is a member of the Society for Neuroscience. He has been published in several professional journals. His research interests include the mechanisms of posttraumatic epilepsy and depression.
