Previously, he was a research associate at Loyola University Chicago (2004-08).
Cheatwood earned both his doctoral degree in physiological sciences and his master’s degree in veterinary medical sciences at the University of Florida in Gainesville (2004, 2000). He completed his bachelor’s degree at Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. (1998).
He has published more than 30 refereed publications and abstracts on his research interest of neuroanatomical changes underlying recovery of sensory, cognitive and motor functions after central nervous system injury. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for Brain Research, European Journal of Neuroscience, Neuroscience and Stroke.
A native of Lakeland, Fla., Cheatwood and his wife, Kathryn Sime, have one child.
