Dr. Dennis T. Crouse, Ph.D., Dr. Dennis Crouse portrait has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as professor of pediatrics and director of neonatology. He also holds an administrative position as director of newborn services at St. John’s Hospital.

Most recently, Crouse was associate professor of pediatrics and of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee in Memphis (1993-99). He previously held appointments as assistant professor of pediatrics (1988-93) and instructor in perinatal medicine (1985-88) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

Crouse served with the U.S. Army for three years before earning his bachelor's degree at the University of Houston (1978) and his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston (1982). He completed his pediatrics residency at UTMB (1985) and a three-year fellowship in neonatology (1988) and his doctoral degree in experimental pathology (1992), all at UAB.

Crouse is board certified in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics, is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is a regional instructor for newborn advanced life support. He is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Thoracic Society and the International Organization of Mycoplasmologists. He also is a member of the infectious diseases and microbiology initial review group at the National Institutes of Health. He has authored six book chapters and more than two dozen journal articles and is a reviewer for American Journal of Medical Sciences, Clinical Infectious Disease, The Journal of Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology.

A native of Lowville, N.Y., Crouse and his wife, Cindy, have three children.
