Dr. Edgard A. Cumpa
has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of general internal medicine.
Previously he was on staff at Capitol Community Healthcare in Springfield (2003-2007) and was an attending physician at clinics in Lima, Peru (1996-99). As a volunteer faculty member at SIU, he was named the best clinical faculty teacher of the year in the internal medicine department in 2004.
Cumpa completed his three-year internal medicine residency at SIU School of Medicine, including a year as chief resident (2003). He earned his medical and bachelor’s degrees from Cayetano Heredia Peruvian University in Lima, Peru (1990, 1996).
Cumpa is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His memberships include the American College of Physicians. His clinical interests are preventive medicine and gastrointestinal diseases.
He is a native of Lima, Peru.
