Dr. Alan J. Deckard joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2005.  Deckard is an assistant professor of internal medicine.  He works as a hospitalist, coordinating inpatient treatment for SIU patients at Memorial Medical Center and at St. John’s Hospital.

Previously he was on staff at the Sangamon County Medical Associates (1999-2004) and Havana Medical Associates in Havana, Ill. (1993-99).

Deckard completed his combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency and earned his medical degree at SIU (1993, 1989).  He earned his bachelor's degree at SIU Carbondale (1985).

He is board certified in internal medicine and pediatrics and is a member of the American College of Physicians and American Academy of Pediatrics.  He is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and a recipient of the Norris L. Brookens Award, given to an outstanding resident by the Illinois Society of Internal Medicine.  He served as a member of the medical school’s Alumni Society Board of Governors (1995-99).
