Dr. Saadiq El-Amin III

Dr. Saadiq El-Amin III Portrait of Dr. Saadiq El-Amin has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery.  He has special training and experience in shoulder and sports medicine.

Prior to joining SIU, El-Amin completed his fellowship in shoulder and sports medicine orthopaedic surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York (2010).  His experience there included serving as assistant team doctor for the New York Knicks and St. John’s University.

He received his orthopaedic surgery residency training at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center (2009).  He earned both his medical degree and doctorate in molecular and cell biology from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia (2003, 2001).

His professional affiliations include the Orthopaedic Research Society and the National Medical Association.  His research interests include the area of tissue engineering for the designs ligaments for ACL, elbow and shoulder reconstruction.  He has multiple publications and patents in this area.
