Dr. Ahmed El-Zawahry has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of urology. He will provide urological care in the Division of Urology in Springfield and is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.
Earlier this year El-Zawahry completed a fellowship in female urology, voiding dysfunction and reconstruction at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he completed his residency in urology (2011). He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in urology in prostate diseases and cancer at MUSC (2005).
El-Zawahry was an instructor of urology at Suez Canal University Hospital in Ismailia, Egypt (1999-2002) and Asyut University Hospital (AUH) in Asyut, Egypt (1998-99). He also completed a urology residency at AUH (1997). He received his medical degree (1993) and a master’s degree in urology from Asyut University (1997).
El-Zawahry is a member of the American Urology Association, International Continence Society, Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine and Urogenital Reconstruction, American Urogynecologic Society and American Medical Association. He has coauthored 24 articles and five book chapters on research interests, including gene therapy for prostate and head and neck cancers.
Dr. El-Zawahry and his wife, Angela, live in Springfield with their two children.
