Dr. Jose A. Espinosa


Dr. Jose A. Espinosa Dr. Jose A. Espinosa portrait joined the faculty in neurosurgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1994.  He is currently associate professor and chair of the neurosurgery division.

He completed his residency in neurosurgery at McGill University Montreal Neurological Institute in Montreal, Can., and his residency in general surgery at McGill’s Montreal General Hospital (1994, 1989).  He earned his medical degree from the University of Panama (1984).

Espinosa is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Brain Injury Consortium, American Medical Association and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  While at McGill, he received the Jeanne Timmins Costello Fellowship Award in Neurosurgery and the Penfield-McNaughton Award in Neurosurgery. 

His research interests include epilepsy surgery and computer-assisted surgery.
