Dr. David J. Olysav Dr. David Olysav portrait has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery.

Olysav previously practiced in Springfield and was an attending physician at both Memorial Medical Center (MMC) and St. John's Hospital (1980-97). He served as MMC's chair of orthopaedic surgery (1990-97) and medical director of its amputee clinic (1985-97) and Orthopaedic Center (1993-97). Prior to returning to Springfield, Olysav was a practicing physician in the Cayman Islands (1997-2002).

Olysav earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin in Madison (1968, 1973). He completed a one-year internship at Saginaw Cooperative Hospitals in Saginaw, Mich. (1974) and then served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy (1974-76). He completed his orthopaedics residency at the SIU in Springfield (1980).

Olysav is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of several medical societies including the Illinois Orthopaedic Society and the Central Illinois Orthopaedic Society.

Olysav has given numerous presentations and published journal articles on various orthopaedic topics. He research interests are in trauma and biomechanics.

A native of Homestead, Penn., Olysav and his wife, Jean, live in Sherman.
