Dr. Carmel Maria Fratianni
has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University
School of Medicine as assistant professor of endocrinology, metabolism and molecular
medicine. [Note: She has since been promoted to associate professor.]
Previously she was an instructor in medicine for the Harvard Medical School and an assistant in medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston (1994-99).
Fratianni earned a bachelor's degree at Brown University in Providence, R.I., (1984) and her medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania (1988). She completed her internal medicine residency at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, N.Y. (1991). She then completed a three-year fellowship in endocrinology and diabetes at Cornell University Medical College in New York, N.Y. (1992 - 1994), which included research sponsored by the National Institute of Health.
Fratianni is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with board certification in internal medicine and endocrinology and diabetes and metabolism. She is a member of the American Diabetes Association and the Endocrine Society.
