Dr. Imran Hassan has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as assistant professor of general surgery. He specializes in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery and has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, which involves using minimally invasive techniques to treat many diseases of the colon and rectum.
Prior to joining SIU, Hassan completed his research and clinical colorectal fellowships and general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. (2006, 2003). Hassan received his medical degree from the Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan (1995).
Hassan is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is board certified in general surgery. His research interests include the surgical management of rectal cancer with sphincter-saving procedures and quality of life outcomes following colorectal surgery.
