Dr. Alex Gorbonos
has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as assistant professor in urology. He also serves as SIU’s director of robotic surgery.
He has special training and experience in minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) urologic surgery, urologic oncology, endourology (stone surgery) and general urology.
Prior to joining SIU, Gorbonos completed a fellowship in urologic oncology and advanced laparoscopy/robotic surgery at the City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif. (2010). He completed his urology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood (2009). He earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, N.Y. (2003) and his bachelor’s in chemistry from Millikin University in Decatur (1999).
His professional affiliations include the American Urological Association, the American Association of Clinical Urologists and the Illinois Urological Society.
Gorbonos has multiple clinical and research interests including extending the application of minimally invasive surgery, specifically robotics, to all aspects of urology, with particular interest in urologic oncology.
