Connie Hess has been named assistant provost for financial affairs at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.  Her duties include supervision of various business offices at the medical school including accounting, budgeting, contract management, purchasing and sponsored programs.  She succeeds Beth Collier, who is leaving after 22 years with SIU.

Most recently, Hess was associate director for finance and administration in facilities management at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) in Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she also was director of university auditing and director of budget (1985-2007).  She previously was a certified public accountant at Janssen, Begley, Stanley and Deck in Cape Girardeau.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at SEMO (1977) and was certified as a public accountant in 1979.
