Dr. Michael G. Jakoby has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an associate professor of endocrinology, specializing in diabetes, metabolic syndrome and related disorders.
He comes to SIU from the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Las Vegas where he was chair of the internal medicine department and chief of the endocrinology division (2008-10). Previously he was endocrinology section head at the University of Illinois School of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign and the Carle Clinic Association (2002-07).
Jakoby completed an endocrinology fellowship at Washington University (WU) and his internal medicine residency at Barnes Hospital, both in St. Louis (2000, 1997). He earned a combined medical/master’s degree from WU (1995) and his bachelor’s from Bradley University in Peoria (1990).
Jakoby is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty certification in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. His memberships include the American Diabetes Association, Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. His research interests include hospital diabetes management, high blood sugar and diabetes complications, and obesity genetics.
A native of Pekin, Jakoby is married to Susan Jakoby and has two children.
