Dr. Janak Koirala has joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine. He comes to the School after completing a joint fellowship program in infectious diseases at the University of Illinois and the University of Chicago (1996-9). [Note: He has since been promoted to asociate professor.]
Koirala completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital/Westside V.A. Medical Center in Chicago (1993-6). He earned his medical degree and undergraduate degree in biology from Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal (1991, 1983). He also earned his master’s degree in public health from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1999).
He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Koirala is a member of the American College of Physicians and life member of the Nepal Medical Association.
A native of Nepal, he is and his wife Sangita have two children.
