Dr. Guangming Liu, Ph.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine.  He also is a member of the new research team at the SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU and will continue his research to developing therapies which might prevent colon cancer. 

Previously he was an assistant professor of pharmacology at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey (2003-06).  He completed a three-year research fellowship in cellular and molecular biology at the Hormel Institute at the University of Minnesota (2003).  He also was a faculty member at Shenyang General Hospital in China (1995-99).   

Liu earned his doctorate and master’s degrees from China Medical University (1995, 1992) and his residency and medical degree from the Fourth Military Medical University in China (1989, 1985).

Liu is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research.  He has published nearly thirty abstracts on his research interest of how to suppress human colon cancer cells.
