James A. MacLean II, Ph.D., James Maclena, Ph.D., portrait has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale as an assistant professor physiology.

Most recently, he was on the faculty at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.   Previously, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (2001-06).

MacLean earned his doctorate in biochemistry and bachelor’s in biology, both at the University of Missouri-Columbia (2002, 1991).

His research interests include human and animal physiology, molecular biology and the reproductive sciences.  He is a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, Alpha Chi Sigma and The Society for the Study of Reproduction. He has published nine journal articles.

A native of Columbia, Mo., MacLean is married to Kanako Hayashi, Ph.D., also on SIU’s physiology faculty in Carbondale.
