Dr. Paula Scheetz Mackrides has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Quincy as an assistant professor of family and community medicine, specializing in sports medicine. [NOTE: she has sinced been promoted to associate professor.] She is based at SIU's Quincy Family Practice Center. Her 14 years of sports medicine activities include serving as high school team physician and medical staff member for state meets.
Previously, she was on staff with the Harrisburg Family Practice residency program at PinnacleHealth Hospitals in Harrisburg, Penn. (1992-2004). She also was a clinical assistant professor of family and community medicine at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Penn. (2003-04) and at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Penn. (1994-2004).
Mackrides completed both her family practice residency and a sports medicine fellowship (1991, 1992), both at Harrisburg Hospital. She earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Penn. (1987) and her bachelor's degree at Temple University in biology and psychology (1983).
She is board certified in family practice by the American Board of Family Physicians and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American Balint Society.
A native of Sellersville, Penn., Mackrides and her husband, Craig Mackrides, have two children.
