SIU Med School Names HR Director
Penny L. McCarty has been promoted to executive director of human resources at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She succeeds Kay Titchenal, who has retired from the position after 11 years.
McCarty joined SIU as assistant director of human resources in 2005. Previously, she was human resources manager at Eaton Fluid Power in Petersburg (2000-05) and a labor relations supervisor at IMC-Agrico Company in Mulberry, Fla. (2000). She also was a human resources representative for IMC Global Operations in Northbrook, Ill. (1999).
McCarty earned her master’s in human resources and industrial relations from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her bachelor’s from the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) (1998, 1997).
She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and past president of its local chapter (2005-06) as well as a graduate of Leadership Springfield. She chairs a Community Fund Panel of the United Way of Central Illinois and is a member of the Friends of the Sangamon Auditorium Advisory Board at UIS. She served on the Workforce Investment Board for five years and as a member of a Governor’s task force for implementation of a statewide assessment system. She is a certified facilitator with Development Dimensions International and holds national certification as a senior professional in human resources (SPHR).
McCarty lives in Springfield with her husband, Bill McCarty, and has two children, Declan and Carter. She is a native of Williamsville and the daughter of Harold and Carol Carter.
