Dr. Robert B. McLafferty Dr. Robert McLafferty portrait has joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield as an assistant professor of vascular surgery. He comes to the School from the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, where he completed a vascular surgery fellowship (1998). (Note: He has since been promoted to professor.)

McLafferty completed a general surgery residency, a research fellowship in vascular surgery and an internship in general surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University affiliated hospitals in Portland (1996, 1994, 1991). He earned his medical degree at the University of Vermont in Burlington (1990) and his bachelor’s degree in biology at Boston College (1986).

His current research focuses on Raynaud’s syndrome and peripheral vascular disease. He has written more than a dozen journal articles and book chapters.

A native of Auburn, Maine, McLafferty and his wife, Dr. Erica Nelson, who is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at SIU, have two children.
