Dr. Merle H. Muller has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Quincy as an assistant professor of family and community medicine. He also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group, and on the medical staff at the School’s Family Medicine Center-Quincy.
Most recently Muller was an emergency room physician at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa (2009-11). Previously he worked at Siouxland Medical Education Foundation in Sioux City (1991-2009) and practiced medicine in Fairfield, Quincy and Macomb (1985-90).
He completed his family medicine residency at the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa (1985). He earned his medical degree at SIU (1982) and his bachelor's degree at Western Illinois University in Macomb (1979).
Muller is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with added certifications in geriatrics and sports medicine. He also has been certified in advanced trauma, pediatric advanced and neonatal life support. He is a member of American Academy of Family Medicine and completed a fellowship with the association in 1990. His other memberships are American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Board of Family Practice and American Geriatrics Society. He was a member of the United States Air Force (1969-75).
Born in Margaretville, N.Y., Muller and his wife have two girls, two boys and three grandchildren.
