Dr. Kyaw T. Naing, Ph.D., has joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of family and community medicine in Carbondale. [Note: He has since been promoted to associate professor.]

Naing completed a residency in family and community medicine at SIU's Carbondale Family Practice Center (1996) and completed his doctoral degree in community health education at SIU Carbondale (1991). He earned his medical degree from the Institute of Medicine in Rangoon, Burma, (1978) and a master's in community health education at Western Illinois University in Macomb (1984).

Naing served as director of health education in the Jackson County Health Department before beginning his residency at SIU (1988-93). He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is board certified in family practice.

Naing and his wife, Khin, have a son, Eric.
