Local Obstetrics/Gynecology Practice Joins SIU Med School

The four physicians who made up the Sangamon Obstetricians & Gynecologists medical group in Springfield have joined the faculty in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

The four physicians joining SIU and their new academic titles are Chad Huston, M.D., assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and Patricia Knod, M.D., John Saint, M.D., and Casey Younkin, M.D., all associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology. Younkin will serve as division chief for the second general obstetrics and gynecology division at the medical school.

All four physicians are board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. In addition to seeing patients as members of SIU Physicians & Surgeons (P&S), they will be involved with teaching medical students and residents. [See below for bios.]

No move is involved as both occupy adjoining space on the sixth floor of the Carol Jo Vecchie Building at St. John's Hospital. Approximately 8,000 patients are affected by the change that dissolves the Sangamon group, which was 75 years old. Thirteen support staff members from the former group are joining SIU as well and two new employees will be hired. Because SIU P & S accepts most of the same insurance plans, the transition should be seamless for the patients.

Dr. Chad A. Huston has joined the SIU faculty as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois (1996) and earned his medical and bachelor's degrees from the University of Illinois (1992, 1988). He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Huston is married and has two children.

Dr. Patricia J. Knod has joined the SIU faculty as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and earned her medical degree, both at SIU School of Medicine (1987, 1983). She earned her bachelor's from Western Illinois University (1980). She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Knod is married and has two children.

Dr. John G. Saint has joined the SIU faculty as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
Saint completed his residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri (1984). He earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, (1980) and his bachelor's degree from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio (1976). He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Saint is married and has two children.

Dr. Casey C. Younkin has joined the SIU faculty as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology. Before beginning private practice in Springfield, he was on the faculty at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (1987-88). Younkin completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri (1987). He earned his medical degree from Washington University (1983) and bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland (1979). He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. He is married and has four children.
