Connie Poole
has been named associate dean for information resources and chair
of the information and communications sciences department, a position she held
on an interim basis since September 2000. She is responsible for assessment,
development, and implementation of information resources needed to support the
School's education, research and clinical missions and also will continue as
director of the School's medical library.
Poole has been with the medical school since 1990, first as head of technical services. She was named director of SIU's medical library in 1996 and is cross appointed as an assistant professor in the information and communication sciences and medical humanities departments. Previously she was on the staff for the American Hospital Association (1977-90) and the Michigan State University(1974-77).
Poole earned her bachelor's at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa (1973) and her master's in library science at the University of Michigan (1974). She is a member of Beta Phi Mu, an international library science honorary society, and a distinguished member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals of the Medical Library Association (MLA). Her other memberships include the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries Board of Directors and the Council of Directors of State Universities Libraries in Illinois.
A native of Manhattan, Kansas, Poole is married to Thomas Dorst and has a child, Matthew. Her parents, Mrs. And Mrs. William D. Poole, live in rural Manhattan.
