Joanna Rea, M.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine. She also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.

Rea has most recently been an assistant professor of medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and VA Medical Center in Milwaukee (2009-11). Prior to that, she was a medical instructor and consultant at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. (2005-09). Rea completed her chief residency and her internal medicine residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester (2005, 2004). She earned her medical degree at Chicago Medical School in North Chicago (2001).

Rea is board certified in internal medicine. She received the Teacher of the Year Award for outpatient education at Mayo Clinic in 2009. She was ranked in the top 20 percent of more than 600 teaching faculty involved in resident education at Mayo Clinic, 2007-08. She is a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine. Her research interests include resident educational topics.
She and her husband live in Springfield with their two children.
