Dr. David Justin Rea bug has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of general surgery, specializing in transplant surgery.  He also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group. 

Previously, he held an appointment at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wis. (2009-11). 

He completed a two-year fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery (2009) as well as his general surgery residency (2007) at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.  Rea completed his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y. (2000).  He earned his bachelor’s in chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley (1993).

Rea is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.  He is a member of several medical societies including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American Society of Transplantation, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and the American Hepato-Pancreato-Bilary Association.  He has been published in numerous professional journals.

A native of Los Angeles, Calif., he is married to Dr. Joanna R. Rea and has one child.
