SIU Med School Names Alumni Director
Julie E. Robbs has been named to a new position as director of alumni affairs at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She continues as an adjunct faculty member in medical education at the medical school.
Robbs is responsible for managing alumni activities designed to foster positive relationships with graduating students and alumni of the School of Medicine. SIU School of Medicine has graduated 2,130 physicians and trained 1,754 physicians in its residency programs. Most of Robbs’ responsibilities have been transferred from John Record, assistant dean for rural and alumni affairs, who will concentrate his efforts on overseeing the School’s Rural Health Initiative and other rural outreach efforts of the medical school.
Robbs has been with SIU since 1991, working as predoctoral education coordinator for the family and community medicine department (1998-2008) and a curriculum coordinator for second-year medical students in the medical education department (1991-98). Previously she was an instructor in speech communication at Eastern Illinois University (EIU).
Robbs earned both her master’s and bachelor’s in speech communication at EIU (1989, 1987) and her associate degree at Lincoln Land Community College (1985). She continues as an adjunct instructor at LLCC.
Her memberships include the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM), Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and Group on Institutional Affairs of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). She is a reviewer for proposal submissions for the AAMC’s Group on Educational Affairs and STFM and has served as a reviewer for “Teaching and Learning in Medicine.”
A native of Springfield, Robbs is married to Randall S. Robbs, a research instructor in statistics and research consulting at SIU. They have two children, Amber and Austin. Robbs is the daughter the late Ellis Hutcheson and of Ruby and John Klein of Springfield
