Dr. Scott K. Schonewolf has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of family and community medicine in Carbondale, specializing in sports medicine. Based at SIU’s Southern Illinois Family Medicine, he also is associate director of SIU’s new primary care sports medicine fellowship.
Schonewolf’s sports medicine experience includes working with high school, college and professional sports teams in Utah and Pennsylvania. He recently completed a one-year Utah Valley sports medicine fellowship in Provo, Utah (2005).
Schonewolf completed his family practice residency at Harrisburg Family Practice in Harrisburg, Penn., and earned his medical degree at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia (2001). He earned his bachelor's degree at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. (1997). He is a native of Harrisburg, Penn.
Schonewolf is board certified in family practice and has a certificate of added qualifications in sports medicine (CAQSM). He also is certified in advanced trauma life support and advanced cardiac life support. He is a member of the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American College of Osteopathic Family Practitioners, American Academy of Family Practitioners and American Osteopathic Association.
