June 13, 2006 SIU Med School Names Interim OB/GYN Chair Dr. William H. Schultz has been named interim chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield. He replaces Dr. Kofi S. Amankwah, who is retiring. A professor in obstetrics and gynecology, Schultz joined the SIU faculty in 2000 after 26 years in private practice in Springfield. He also served on the volunteer teaching staff at SIU (1975-2000). A U.S. Army veteran, Schultz practiced obstetric and gynecology at Walson Army Hospital in Fort Dix, N.J. (1972-74). Schultz completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago (1972). He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine (1968) and bachelor's from Northwestern University (1964). Schultz is certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is past chairman and medical director of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Memorial Medical Center (1990-94) as well as past chairman of Memorial's perinatal committee. A native of Elmhurst, Schultz and his wife, Kyle, are parents of two adult children. Two other appointments have been made in the department. Dr. Erica E. Nelson, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been named director of the department’s four-year residency program, succeeding Amankwah. Dr. Katherine A. Hild-Mosley, assistant of obstetrics and gynecology, is now assistant residency director. Nelson joined the SIU faculty in 1998. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland (1995) and a research fellowship at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1986). Nelson earned her medical degree at the University of Vermont in Burlington (1990) and bachelor’s at Pamona College in Claremont, Calif. (1985). She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She and her husband, Dr. Robert McLafferty, associate professor of vascular surgery at SIU, have two children, Bryant and Lesley. Dr. Katherine A. Hild-Mosley joined the SIU faculty in 2005. She completed a one-year fellowship in medical ethics and her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison (1995, 1994). She earned her medical degree at SIU School of Medicine (1990) and her bachelor's at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana (1986). Hild-Mosley is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. A native of Chicago, she is married to Dr. Robert G. Mosley, a Springfield gastroenterologist, and has three children, Maria, Matthew and Anne. Amankwah first joined SIU’s faculty in 1973, leaving the faculty in 1990 for the University of Toronto.
