Assaad Y. Semaan, M.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of gynecologic oncology. He is also a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group, and will provide care at Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU.

Semaan completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. (2013). He completed residencies in obstetrics and gynecology at George Washington University in Washington D.C. (2009) and anesthesiology at the American University of Beirut, in Lebanon (2005). He received his medical degree and bachelor’s degree in biology from the American University of Beirut (2003, 1999).

Semaan is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has published numerous articles about his research on ovarian cancer. He lives in Springfield.
