Dr. Laura K. Shea has returned to the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of medicine and psychiatry and a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.
Most recently, Shea was in private practice in Springfield (2004-10, 1993-97) and served as a unit psychiatrist at McFarland Mental Health Center (1998-2004) and medical director at Heartland Human Services in Effingham (1996-98). She also served as a consultant with the Graham Correctional Center (1999-2000), Jacksonville Development Center (1994-98) and Montgomery County Mental Health Center (1993-97). She was first on the SIU faculty in1990-93.
Shea completed her residency in general psychiatry and earned her medical degree at SIU School of Medicine (1990, 1986). She earned her bachelor’s at SIU Carbondale (1982).
Shea is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She is vice president of the Sangamon County Medical Society.
A native of Springfield, Shea is married to Gary Lamsargis and has two children.
