Dr. Socorro Shelton has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of family and community medicine at SIU’s West Frankfort Family Medicine Clinic.
Shelton completed her residency at SIU’s Carbondale family medicine residency program (2010). She earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (2007). She attended SIU’s MEDPREP program before attending medical school (2003). She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Santo Thomas in Manila (1978).
Shelton previously was on the nursing staff at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale (1989-2003) and at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., Florida Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale and Santo Thomas Hospital in Manila.
Shelton is certified in advance cardiac life support and pediatric life support. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
A native of the Philippines, Shelton is married to Michael Shelton and has two children.
