Dr. Stephen Stone became a full-time faculty member at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 2000. He is a professor of dermatology. He previously was in private dermatology practice in Springfield (1974-2000) and was a voluntary faculty member at SIU during that time, including serving as chief of dermatology (1988-92).
Stone completed a fellowship in dermatology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. (1974) and his internal medicine residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City (1969). He earned his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in New York City (1967) and his bachelor’s at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. (1963).
Stone is board certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. He has been elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Physicians, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (president 2006‑7), American Dermatologic Association, American Contact Dermatitis Society, International Society of Tropical Dermatology, Society for Investigative Dermatology and the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation.
His special clinical interests are evaluation and treatment of occupational and contact dermatitis, psoriasis, acne and skin cancer.
