April Dawn Strader, Ph.D., joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale in 2005 as an assistant professor of physiology. [Note: She is now an associate professor of physiology Carbondale.]
Strader completed a postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati (2005). She earned her doctoral and master’s degrees at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee (2002, 1995) and her bachelor’s at the University of California in Berkeley (1992).
She has had more than 20 journal articles published about her research interest in obesity and diabetes. Strader has received research grant support from the American Heart Association, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Obesity Society and most recently, a challenge grant from the National Institutes of Health.
She is a member of the American Diabetes Association, Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Obesity Society.
A native of California, Strader is married to Gus LaRose of Chippewa Falls, Wisc. They have one daughter. Strader is the daughter of Michael and Margaret Strader of Rodeo, Calif.
