Liou Y. Sun, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of geriatric research in the Department of Internal Medicine.
Sun has most recently been a research faculty member at the Geriatric Center at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (2010-12) and was a research fellow there from 2006-10. Sun was a research assistant in the SIUC Dept. of Physiology from 2000-05, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatrics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill (2006). He earned his Ph.D. at SIU Carbondale (2005) and his medical degree from Southeast University Medical School in Nanjing, China (1999).
Sun is the author of 15 peer-reviewed articles on his research interests, including effects of stress response on slow-aging mice. He is the principle investigator of two ongoing NIH grants totaling more than $881,000. He is a member of the American Aging Association, American Physiological Society, Endocrine Society and Gerontological Society of America.
Sun and his wife, Jian, live in Springfield with their three children.
