Dr. Penny Patton Tippy
joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1982. She was named director of the SIU family practice residency program in Carbondale in 1984. Before joining the SIU faculty, Tippy was in private practice in West Frankfort, Ill. [Note: She has since been promoted to professor.]
Tippy completed a three-year family practice residency at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, N.Y. (1977) and earned her medical degree at the University of Illinois School of Medicine (1974). She earned her bachelor's from Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. (1970).
She is a board certified in family practice medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Association of Family Practice Residency Directors, National Institute of Program Director Development, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and American Board of Family Physicians.
Tippy lives in West Frankfort with her husband, Roger Tippy. They have two sons, Paul and Goebel (Gabe). She is the daughter of Goebel Patton and Mrs. James Lucas, both of West Frankfort.
