Sonia Vasdev, MD, has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery’s Division of Orthopaedics. She will oversee the administration of clinical research activities and direct research projects.
Vasdev completed a dual master’s degree in public health and public administration at the University of Illinois Springfield in December 2012. She received academic honors in her MPH/MPA program.
She was a medical officer on the faculty of Bakson Medical College and Hospital in Greater Noida, India (2006-09), where she completed a residency in Pediatrics (2006). She received her medical degree from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, India (2003).
Prior to joining SIU, Vasdev was a research assistant at the Taxpayers’ Federation of Illinois in Springfield (2012-13). She also helped develop marketing and human resource plans as a volunteer at MERCY Communities, SPARC and the Illinois Health Care Association in Springfield (2011-12).
Vasdev is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
She and her husband, Subodh Jain, MD, a fellow in child psychiatry at SIU School of Medicine, live in Springfield with their son, Adish.
