Patricia J. Wappel has joined the staff at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as a marketing development specialist for the SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU. She is responsible for promoting and coordinating programs and services the Cancer Institute provides in the region.
Before coming to SIU, Wappel was a donor recruiter for the Central Illinois Community Blood Center (2005-06) and a fundraising and sales consultant (1996-2005). She previously was the philanthropic development coordinator at St. John’s Hospital (1994-96) and community director at March of Dimes (1990-94).
Wappel earned her bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University in Normal (1988) and her associate of arts at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. She is a member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy and Pregnancy Care Center board, a member and past president of St. John’s Hospital Samaritans, and a volunteer for March of Dimes, Blessed Sacrament Church, Springfield High School PTO and Springfield Figure Skating Club.
She and her husband, Paul Wappel, live in Springfield and have three children. Her father Robert Sloan, Jr., and his wife, Martha Sloan, live in Macomb.
