Dr. Christopher D. Wohltmann
has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois
University School of Medicine as assistant professor of surgery, specializing
in general surgery, trauma surgery and surgical critical care. He becomes the
third trauma surgeon at SIU serving as a member of the Southern Illinois Trauma
Center in Springfield. [Note: He is now an associate professor of surgery.]
Prior to joining SIU, Wohltmann was chief of the trauma service at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas (1999-2003).
Previously he completed a fellowship in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Ky. (1999). He completed his surgery residency at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. (1997). He earned his medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. (1992) and bachelor's from the University of Notre Dame at Notre Dame, Ind. (1987).
Wohltmann is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is a certified Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor and course director. Wohltmann served in the U.S. Army as a major (1999-2003).
A native of Utica, N.Y., Wohltmann and his wife, Marcia, are the parents of two children.
