Rong Yuan, M.D., Ph.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of geriatric research in the Department of Internal Medicine.
Yuan has been the scientific manager of The Jackson Aging Center at The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine, and leader of its animal and phenotyping core groups (2005-12). He was a research scientist (2007-12), associate research scientist (2004-07) and postdoctoral fellow (2003-04) at The Jackson Laboratory. He received postdoctoral training at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in Gainesville (2000-03).
Yuan received his medical degree and Ph.D. from Shanghai Second Medical University in China (2000), master’s of surgery (1997) and bachelor’s in medicine (1993) at Chinese Southeast University in Nanjing, China.
Yuan has coauthored more than 17 peer-reviewed articles on his research interests, including longevity studies of normal and mutated mice strains.
He and his wife, Jingxia Xu, Ph.D, live in Springfield with their son, Nathan.
