Dr. Tareq Zaza has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine. He will provide health care in the division of pulmonary and critical care medicine. He also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.
Prior to coming to Springfield, Zaza was director of pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine at the Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kan. He completed her fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and environmental medicine at the University of Missouri at Columbia (2009), and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Missouri at Kansas City (2006). He received his medical degree from Damascus University Medical School in Syria (2001).
Zaza is board certified in critical care medicine, internal medicine, sleep medicine and pulmonary disease. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the American Thoracic Society. His research interests include critical care ultrasonography and ultrasound and clinical research in the use of routine daily chest X-rays in the intensive care setting.
He and his wife, Salma, live in Springfield with their two daughters.
