Dr. Sushant Punjaram Kale has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of neurology. He also is a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group, and director of St. John’s Hospital Stroke Center.
Kale completed fellowships in interventional neurology at St. Louis University (2011) and vascular neurology at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo (2009). He completed residencies in neurology (2008) and internal medicine (2005) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children’s Hospital and John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital, all in Little Rock. He earned his master’s in public health from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2004) and his medical degree from Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College in Pune, India (2001).
From 2009-2011, Kale served as staff stroke neurologist at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis and at SSM Neurosciences Institute’s DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton, Mo.
Kale is board certified in neurology and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, and the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology. He has been published in several professional journals.
A native of India, he is married to Shubhangi Peche and has one child.
