SIU Med School Announces Three Administrative Appointments

Three faculty members of the Department of Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine have been appointed chiefs of their divisions. 

Dr. Lucinda S. Buescher, associate professor of internal medicine, has been appointed chief of the dermatology division.  Buescher also is director of the Dermatology Residency Training Program.  Buescher joined SIU in 1993.  She is certified as a diplomate by the American Board of Dermatology and the National Board of Medical Examiners and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Michael G. Jakoby, associate professor of internal medicine, has been appointed chief of the endocrinology division.  Jakoby also is director of the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Health and specializes in diabetes, metabolic syndrome and related disorders. Jakoby joined SIU in 2010.  He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with a subspecialty certification in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.  He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Janak Koirala, associate professor of internal medicine, has been appointed chief of the infectious diseases division.  Koirala also is program director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program.  He joined SIU School of Medicine in 1999.  Koirala is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine both in internal medicine and in infectious diseases.  He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of Infectious Disease Society of America.
