Women’s Power Lunch Features Comedienne, Cancer Survivor
Comedienne, author and colorectal cancer survivor Brenda Elsagher is the keynote speaker for the 3rd Annual Women’s Power Lunch Against Cancer. The lunch will be held at noon, Friday, April 27 at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, 701 E. Adams St., Springfield.
Proceeds from the event benefit cancer research at Simmons Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University. Tickets are $50 each or $500 for a table of 10 tickets. Call 217-545-2955 or register online at www.siumed.edu/cancer for tickets.
Elsagher was diagnosed with colorectal cancer at age 39. The diagnosis refocused her life to pursue her love of comedy. She has written several books including, “I’d Like to Buy a Bowel Please,” and “Bedpan Banter.” A book signing will follow the event.
She received the American Cancer Society’s Golden “Mic” Award, the Advocacy to Action Award from GYRIG (Get Your Rear in Gear), and was named Twin Cities Funniest Person and the Newsmaker of the Year by the Minnesota Women’s Press.
The Women’s Power Lunch Against Cancer celebrates and encourages mutual support among women as primary health caregivers in our communities. Registration and networking will begin at 11 a.m. Lunch will begin at noon.
